I myself had a severe gluteal and lower back injury that required several injections of steriods. My specialized sports doctor stated that the best thing I could do along with the steriod shots, pain medication, physical therapy was, "ICE THE HECK OUT OF THE AREA THAT HURTS, IF THAT MEANS 15 MINUTES ON AND 15 MINUTES OFF, DO IT". I took his advice because of the severe pain. I iced my gluteal and lower back area 15 minutes on and 15 minutes off as much as I could and it definitely sped up my recovery. It took me almost a whole year to be able to walk normal again but without taking his advice I am sure it would have taken longer. You may not be able to do it that much but try it as much as you can. Keep several ice packs in the freezer and rotate them. Good Luck! Hope your feeling better soon.
