Residual External Hydrocephalus

Colette

Message 1 of 1

My 2 1/2 year old daughter was recently diagnosed as having Residual External Hydrocephalus by her new pediatrician. I fail to understand why the pediatric neurologist never told me this and informed me that she was fine and that her walking and cognitive delays were developmental! I also fail to understand why my old pediatrician never informed me or even followed up with the neurologist about this! I am infuriated about this! I'm happy... yes that I FINALLY know what's wrong with her! BUT... my new pediatrician reviewed all her tests, etc. and says that she no longer suffers from this and that she doesn't need a shunt or any other surgery! She will be following up with the neurologist to inform me if any other tests will be needed! The new pediatrican truly believes that she no longer suffers from this condition since her delays have been improving by leaps and bounds! I too have seen the incredible improvements in my daughter as have her Occupational Therapists! I'm wondering... can somebody shed some light for me as to "what exactly is RESIDUAL EXTERNAL HYDROCEPHALUS?" We have been told that her case was mild! Will she lead a normal life? Her intelligence is remarkable! She's been reciting the alphabet and numbers and identifying them in indescrimate order since she's 18 months old! She has an excellent vocabulary and expresses her wants and needs beautifully! She just needs a little help with dialog! sometimes you look at her and she's fine and other times you look at her and you just have to wonder... What's wrong with her? I'm sorry I'm rambling! I'm just an extremly concerned & worried mom for her daughter's well being! I'm just looking for some answers. Can someone shed some light? Thank you!
