Precocious Puberty

Liane: Oh my gosh....I was in the same exact boat as your friend. My daughter and son are EXTREMELY tall for their ages and have been since they were about 9 months old. Our doctor was just "watching them", also....and they had pubic hair, acne, body odor, huge appetites, etc. My daughter was an up-and-down emotional wreck on a monthly basis. It is such a horrible feeling to sense that SOMETHING is wrong with your child but not be able to prove it. And to tell the doctors "I know something is wrong" puts a parent at risk of appearing to WANT there to be a problem (and get pegged as weird/paranoid). My advice to your friend is to keep bugging the doctor...every three months, insist on a height/weight check. Every 6 months, insist on an x-ray to check her bone age. If she does have CPP, the advances will be obvious to even the most conservative doctor, and the child will be referred to an endocrinologist. If the doctor refuses to do a thing, tell your friend to be proactive and take her child to an endocrinologist herself. Just call and explain the situation and ask if she can bring her child in to be examined. Tell her I said "Good luck!!"
