hi, i have whiplash, and my dad has a history of long term back probs his is in his lumbar area L5/S1. we have found that swimming helps alot, my dad was in a lot of pain for years, also a good diet, and make sure your weight is healthy for your body type, these are a start. i have had whiplash for the past 9 months, and swimming has been great, i have had probs with all parts of my back. try swimming and non weight bearing sports 1st before you opt for surgery.any questions email me, i am also at university study sport science. etc.
