I have had Ulcerative Colitis since 1988. I have been on all the drugs. I feel that diet is not it. The large colon is where the stool is stored and absorbed. By the time it get there everything is out of it. It has already passed thru your normal system. My doctors told me that I could eat anything cause it is too far down the colon to be on a diet. Well, I hate to be the barer of bad news but in 1995 I had an attack I lost all my weight and was down to 90lbs. I was on all the medication I could possibly be on . 6MP, Predisone, asacol, flagyel, cordisone enemas, liq. diet etc. I had to be hospitalized I sat in hospital for 19 days was unable to eat nothing!! I was on every drug there was and then some. On the 19th day I had to make the worst decision of my entire life. To have my whole large colon removed. Yes , Ostomy time. I was scared. But because I had ulcerative colitis and not Chrohn's. My surgeon built me a J-pouch inside my body using my small intestines. I had a ostomy for 3 months and was reconnected. I had a lot of other trouble but I can tell you that, that was the best decision I had ever made now. I went off all medications in 1998. Found a man that believed in me and together we had a child on 9/22/99. It was a boy and he is healthly as ever. So when you come to the crossroads in your life that this must be done.
