i have made it past the five years tho not without a recurrence. first diagnosis was may '94. second was in 1997-98. first treatment included surgeries for debulking and second look, taxol and first cisplatin, then carbo. also was given megace 80 mg./day and got chubby. ironically with a wig and the pudginess, people and i thought i never looked better in my life! at second diagnosis, initially was treated with the carbo, taxol and megace again. i too wound up allergic to carboplatin. my reaction was so bad ( a significant drop in blood presure followed by passing out, waking up in ICU 2 days later), my doctor, obviously, discontinued the carboplatin and kept the taxol. treatments were weekly and lasted nearly 10 more months, till i couldn't handle the cumulative effects. it seems the treatment may not have been as effective this time and we're watching. was put on tamoxifen in December and my CA 125 which had climbed to high 50's and stayed there for 3 months, dropped back down to 44 for past 2 months. am waiting tonight on the results of the most recent. it's at times hellish for me and my husband. would be interested in hearing more about you, your treatments, your doctors, etc. stephanie
